Loving being back at Longreach........

Sunday 11 June

After a stunning sunrise over Lara Station we excitedly packed up to head back to Longreach. After our last time up this way where we watch the final State of Origin, went to the Stockmans Hall of Fame, Qantas Museum and the seriously spesh Longreach School of Distance Ed. The kids were pumped about getting back to the Merino Bakery as well - it was rated The Best Bakery of our 2015 Trip - due to the square meat pie!! ;)

Sunset on the Cliffs, Dalkeith Longreach
First stop was a quick walk at Barcaldine to see the tree of knowledge, have a walk, jiggity jog on the spot with a fresh breeze and learn how the Australian Labour Party was founded. It was at this site that much discussion and action was taken by 3000 protesting shearers, that had a profound effect on the forward movement of politics and the Australian Labour Party in general from this time on.

The Tree of Knowledge, Barcaldine

Bee loving up a Correa?? perhaps - not sure what plant?
If anyone knows what this plant is let me know in the comments below, I'm getting there with my trees for the areas we've been through so far. I remember from our last trip I thought there was a Murraya or Mock Orange I think near the Park area and I endeavoured to sniff it out...perhaps it was at another town ??

Barcaldine Main Strip

No introduction required!
Back at Longreach on a Sunday and like Barcaldine too, it was lovely to see the streets quiet and yes I was very grateful that the bakery was not closed !! We grabbed an early lunch and a few extra bits before heading out to Dalkeith to catch up with the McClymonts.

The Landscapes we drive through never ceases to amaze me. And with audio books on looking out the window the changes can occur in a flash. From clay grey soils and divine ghost gums up a slight incline you're then at the top of a shallow ridge with pebbly ironstone and tortured looking Lancewood by the way it can shape itself. We are 40km from town where we live and this is far enough for kids travelling in and out each day. So being about 140km from town is a completely different spin. The kids were all so looking forward to meeting each other as were Stu & I to catch up with Joy and finally meet Paul.

Ash, Hugo, Charlie, Eva, Loudy, Sash, Elka & Joy
We cruised up to The Cliffs for sunset and a few drinkies, and had a great chat as the kids explored this extraordinary area that I have to say did have a touch of magic to it - such an incredible feeling. This is what the ordinary travellers don't get to experience and we all love meeting and catching up with passionate farmers throughout this incredible country....such a joy!!

A cracking long snake skin - yes it's in transit for news Mrs Harbo!!

Ash & Huges sharing a quiet chat...

Plenty of problems sorted on The Cliffs this evening !!
The kids all hit it off beautifully and with addresses exchanged I've no doubt we will see some snail mail penpal action over the years to come. The kids also loved seeing the School Room at Dalkieth and get an idea  of what school from home is like.

Since Dec 2016 I joined Off The Track Training with Joy and became a Hubber !! It has been life changing and has taught me how to integrate exercise into my daily life in a seriously time efficient fashion !! I just love it, as well as love the amazing women I am meeting all over Australia through the Facebook page - it's such a hoot!! And a bit of huff and puff hard work too that I am reaping the rewards for physically and mentally!

Live Hub Workout with Joy - woo hoo
So joy of joys (pun completely intended ;) ;) !!) I got to participate in a live workout at 6am on Monday morning a Hub Workout with the Captain !! Fabulous stuff - super fun and yep still feeling the effects of it today a few days later ! A glorious sunrise at Dalkeith and with Joy and the kids off to Longreach for their 2 day Athletics Carnival, we then began the backroad to Winton. It was incredible hearing where the kids come from to attend this carnival all together....Windorah, almost Birdsville, Stonehenge, Muttaburra and so forth. We so look forward to eventually repaying the hospitality of you all McClymonts at our place !! xx

Stunning sunrise !! Love it !!
