Love it when a plan comes together..... ;)
Fri 21 - Sat 22 June 2019
We are all somewhere in The Territory !!
This trip has been in the planning for awhile - it was designated to be our 2018 trip and the Universe had other plans and big roadblocks instead. It was by no means easy to 'delay' this trip as we really had our hearts set on it. And this year of course everything has fallen freely into place and so it's then the knowing that we are all systems go, this is the year for this jaunt!
So where are we going ? Katherine to Perth via the Gibb River road as far north as Mitchell Falls. It's 2 years since our last trip which was a smashingly fabo 10 weeks..no guessing what the addiction is for Team Green...wood smoke and canvas , champagne and red dirt people !
Leaving home...boys left Thurs morning
A lovely relaxing trip I have to say from Bathurst on the bus to Lithgow with Bronny and Nan waving us off after a quick detour to Legall Patisserie ;) A stunning day through the mountains and made it to the airport with oodles of time and then some....Jetstar flight delayed an hour. Gratefully not cancelled !! There were quite a few of these listed on the board.
Stunning Blue Mountains
Meanwhile where are the boys ?? They left on Thursday 4am legging it to Blackall and taking 3 days to drive to Katherine. They made it to Barkly Homestead and swagged it after what I would assume was another T-bone meal !
Why have we done it this way ? To maximise our time up north, with 6 weeks available it's far quicker 2 driving up to Katherine than 5 in the car. And rather than the boys meeting us in Darwin and then heading south again - Katherine was the obvious spot to meet before heading west ! Stu has been to Perth to look at sheep once a long time ago - otherwise this is new territory for us all.
About 1.30am ! Almost in Darwin
Happy Saturday morning in Darwin... 2.30am crawled into bed with the little one, Eves flew solo in a single. The bliss of getting horizontal ! A lovely cup of tea in bed by May May at 8am - yep no big sleeper innerers and we decided to head to Parap Markets before getting the bus to Katherine.
Parap Markets - yeah !!
Oh man, so fabulous to be back here again. Cracking buckwheat crepes for breaky, coffee and a quick cruise around.... and got dragged away from some things, they are your daughters Stu and can see danger with Artisan stalls and me !!
Fabulous sensory overload....
These two have both been hanging out for Mango smoothies
Looking out from the bus window...it's the beautiful familiar scenes all over, the scent of a burnoff happening somewhere, turkey bush flowering, pandanas palms, charred gums, grasses, frangipanis, mellow looking Brahams...and so much more.
Nice work Stu and Huges - in true trucking form by this arvo you will have punched out about 3400km in 3 days. Careful Stu might get a job offer at DK Transport!!
A couple of nights regroup and relaxer in Katherine, thermal spaths on the list this arvo, then will head west to Lake Argyle.......
Some random on the Barkly Tablelands... bahahaha !!
Time for a restful adventure !!!
