Silverton to Port Augusta
Tuesday 21 June - Day 3
A bit chilly and fresh to start our morning at Silverton. Very cloudy with the sun well hidden we moseyed on into Broken Hill...coffee at Gloria Jeans (!!) has never looked so good!
Overlooking the town of Broken Hill is the Miners Memorial to the 800 odd men who lost their lives from the 1880's till now. Architectually commanding and sobering walking down reading all about when how and why these men lost their lives as miners. Also incredible to think that this is the home of BHP such a massive global company.
View of Broken Hill atop the man made hill at the Miners Memorial. Huges loved some of the machinery sitting up and around the memorial too of times gone by...two in particular are their in memory of two miners entombed in the earth.
A reasonable days drive to Port Augusta through some lovely flat plained areas and little towns along the way Olary, Manna Hill and Yunta. The Flinders came into sight and we came through quite a bit of low cloud and fog through Petersborough and Orroroo. It was delightfully overcast and drizzly upon arriving at Port Augusta (truly the sun is on strike at present!!) - the Princess in me popped out and was hopeful for a motel room...however we set up the team quick onsite at a caravan park with a fabulous camp kitchen. Even with the weather nothing that a homegrown chop and sausage with fresh coleslaw couldn't fix ! I have my boyfriend to thank for his can-do and resilience ! And yes there were a few beers involved too ! I'm easily placated....
Happy happy joy joy - Team Green selfie...kids having a great time as are we and with the wet weather at home at present...it encourages us to keep heading north to sunnier weather. And on this winter solstice day a very happy 40th birthday to my mate Melly Jade - hope you are having a spectaular day! Mwwaaahhh xx
Oh we Wirths will have fun checking in and seeing what you're getting up to! Looks like you're having a fab time already, making such great memories.
