Cobar to Silverton
Monday 20 June 2016 - Day 2
A wet morning in Cobar that started well with an Egg & Bacon roll from Cobar Hot Bake ! With warm tummies and lots of enthusiasm we were off ! A great early start about 7am meant we would get some time to explore Silverton in the arvo.
With the rain and clouds clearing the morning was lovely heading west towards Wilcannia. Cobar had about 40mm yesterday - fabulous rain for all the area. Last time I had been this way I was about 12, and from here all things were new for the rest of the team.
Still water in floodways on the way to Wilcannia and some water in the Darling although as you can see by the banks of the Darling , its very low compared to years gone by. Gorgeous still all the same, such a commanding presence.
Arrived at Broken Hill early afternoon, got some supplies and headed out to historic Silverton, unchanged from my memory of 28 years ago. Still the magnificent ghost gums in the creek beds, red course sand and lots of artists! Friendly dog of course at the pub..and Hugo loved the Mad Max Museum.
Cool enough night for a campfire and a great bowl of comfort food, a few beers and a chat about a fun first big day ...great spot at Penrose Caravan Park - loads of space for the kids to yahoo and play..as well as bring the average age of the campsite down by 40 odd years !! Hehehe.
The Moon even managed to peak her way through the clouds too, as Sash always used to say - 'oh look Mum...the Moon she's turned her light on !!'.
