Uluru & Kata Tjuta
Wed 29 June - Day 11
Great day today after a frosty night - not a great start for the VIP who flew in the day before!! Huges had frost on his swag too and was 'frozen' helps to zip the end of your swag up though big fella !! After breaky and warming up...we headed out to Uluru and its even bigger than I remember as a kid. Driving up to it it looked like it was super imposed onto the landscape behind.
We all started to walk around the base doing the base walk. eves was looking pretty to determined to walk the whole thing as part of her Australia Badge for Guides. Sash was determined to go as far as her little legs would take her too. She made it about 4km and Huges pulled up about half way...happy to stroll and soak it up. Mum was in the support vehicle and picked us all up along the way.
Gorgeous pic of Sash just sitting and soaking things up waiting for Eva , Huges and Stu to toddle along the track.
The colours are something that I never can soak up enough of especially with some rain out this way a few weeks ago and stunning patches of green and wildflowers beginning to pop up all over the place.
They did it well done Eves and Stu completing the base walk around Uluru. Kids were fascinated about people actually climbing the rock. It ended up being closed for the next two days and they just looked like ants going up and down such a steep face.
Watched the sunset from a dune near the campground and with just using my phone camera...it doesn't do it justice at all !!
Thursday 29 June - Day 12
Kata Tjuta just extraordinary....we didn't come here as kids and you can just feel a different level of sacredness here compared to Uluru.. the valley of the winds walk was divine and so many less people than at the rock too. The wind was certainly evident....and was blowing and seemed soothing at the same time. This has certainly been my favourite place to spend time in so far.
This little stream was straight through the middle of the Valley of the Winds walk and was spring fed though the rock - the water was unbelievable...the taste...unlke any other water I've tasted before .......words can't describe the beauty of this area.
The second walk we did was through Wampa Gorge - I think it was ?? Stu, Huges and I did this one, Eva's legs were pooped from the 10km base walk yesterday and Sash is a sprinter!! So she wasn't used to lon walks bless her !
A fabulous day out here and everyone was able to walk as far or as short they chose to and so enjoyed the day. The colours and the textures of rock and flora was stunning and wedged firmly in my mind. The shot below is a beutiful photo that is a snapsnot of what it was like on the day.
