Uluru - to a new direction......We're back in Alice !!

Friday 1 July - Day 13

We woke to rain at about 5am....light rain and rain again nonetheless. So we were up fairly early to pack up a wet campsite and head off. We went to the Cultural Centre near Uluru - this was fabulous and had so much information and some incredible local artworks for sale. We then headed back out then Lasseter highway unconvinced that our trip round the Oodnadatta & Strezlecki tracks would be a great option given the current rain they have received in the past few weeks.

Stu spoke with one chap at Alice Springs, he and another 2 campers were stuck at Innamincka for 4 days with only 10-15mm rain one day...so we were aware this might be a possiblility.

So at Erldunda we sat at the Roadhouse for an hour weighing up options and planning a new possible route forward which was easy as hilariously it was the way we wanted to come heading outwards initially anyway. So we turned left towards Alice Springs in cool temps and some patches of rain still! We got a cabin in Alice for the night amazingly with the Alice Springs show on for 3 days ......booked in and then went out for dinner as a bit of a treat to a place on Tripadvisor called Sporties - just brilliant!

They had the most fabulous song playlist from the late 70's and early 80's that we all sat and bopped away to enjoying a few beers etc and of course a great dinner too - such a great place to go to on a cool Alice evening on Territory Day. So that's another story the cracker night.....there were fireworks going off in the river bed...backyards....and even the Anzac Lookout...they were still flying off as we all went to bed and Stu heard the last one around 3am - just hilarious!! After an unsure start to the day it was great to have our direction resorted and heading forward onto the Plenty Highway early tomorrow !
